A wonderful man from Canada just came into the office----a fellow real estate broker Al Dredge of R/E Max Edmonton.
When I asked him about market demand for green building practices, he spoke instead about the notion of quality of life. This is an intiative of the Alberta Real Estate community. It may well include building techniques that keep families healthy (fewer toxins, well-insulated) & energy-smart design--- but suggest much more... Here is a part of their description:
"What comes to mind when you hear the phrase Quality of Life? A good job? A roof over your head? Living in a safe neighbourhood with access to good schools and plenty of green space?
To Alberta REALTORS®, Quality of Life is that and much more. REALTORS® want to make sure communities are thriving and growing, while keeping a close eye on the environment and the economy.
It’s a natural fit. That’s why the Alberta Real Estate Association has adopted the Quality of Life program to make sure the values important to Albertans are reflected in the business and community practices of REALTORS® and their real estate boards. The initiative is based on five principles:
ensuring economic vitality
providing housing opportunities
preserving our environment
protecting property rights
building better communities
Quality of Life is already at work in Alberta. Find out how:
the principles are working in practice
Alberta REALTORS® are making a difference
AREA's goal is to incorporate the five principles into real estate board initiatives, member activities and greater public awareness.

Thanks for sharing that perspective, Al
Green building practices are an important element in the equation but so many other factors add to the quality of life we enjoy in a community. As professionals and community members, we can have a potent & positive effect on the quality of life in our circle of influence. Forrest
